Kepa Arrizabalaga has been speaking about his time at Chelsea last season as the Spaniard settles in at Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old made the comments when speaking to Marca.

So, what did Kepa Arrizabalaga say about Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – for some reason – the Spaniard thinks he personally enjoyed a strong 2022/23 campaign in between the sticks for Chelsea.

Kepa made 29 starts out of a possible 38 in the Premier League as Chelsea finished 12th.

Speaking to Marca, the Spain international said: “In part I did expect it (Spain call-up). It made me feel very happy.

“Last year was a very good season for me, collectively we did not meet our objectives, nor were we in the position we wanted, but I think that in terms of personal performance and how I felt, it was a great season. The return to the national team came hand in hand and so I was happy.”

Regardless of whether Kepa thinks he had a good 2022/23 campaign or not, he should read the room.

Chelsea were more than happy to loan him out as soon as an offer arrived – so those at Stamford Bridge clearly didn’t feel he performed well last season.

So, it just seems a bit strange for Kepa to almost distance himself from the mess of last season, when he was just as culpable as any other player for the underwhelming campaign.

Kepa Arrizabalaga wants Chelsea exit

The Spanish glovesman is only on loan at the Santiago Bernabeu, and according to the Evening Standard, Real Madrid do not have an option or obligation to buy him.

However, Kepa has already made it clear he wants to join Los Blancos on a permanent basis.

The shot-stopper is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying: “I really hope Real Madrid will keep me at the end of the season.”

Therefore, if Real Madrid decide against signing Kepa permanently, things could get a bit awkward when he returns to Stamford Bridge next summer after these comments.
