Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has told The Telegraph that he knows he is taking a risk staying at Chelsea this year, with the World Cup in Qatar approaching.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a fine loan spell with Crystal Palace last season, being named their player of the season.

His manager Patrick Vieira was one of his biggest fans last season, describing him as a ‘special’ player.
Despite earning an England call-up due to his good work at Selhurst Park, Gallagher has chosen to return to Stamford Bridge, where competition is a lot stronger for places.
However, the midfielder told The Telegraph that he believes the risk could reap the rewards for both his club and international career.

Gallagher willing to take Chelsea risk
He said: “You can say it’s a gamble, but I feel like I’m ready for a step up in my career.
“If there is a chance to be a part of the squad at Chelsea and part of the team, then I can’t turn it down. I feel like I’ve got to have belief in myself that I can help improve this team and I can show the fans and the boss what I can do.
“Obviously, the World Cup is there and there are a lot of top English players that are in contention for the squad. I know I need to work hard and start the season well to get in the squad just like every other English player will as well. It’s down to ourselves and I’m sure Gareth Southgate will pick the right squad.”

Gallagher has impressed with his work-rate in particular during his cameos for the National team, with him offering an attacking impetus the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice don’t quite match.
If he can make his presence felt at Stamford Bridge at the start of this campaign, there’s no reason why he can’t be pushing for a starting role in Qatar this winter.
