Chelsea wonderkid Kendry Paez has now reacted after receiving a call-up to the Ecuador national team.
The 16-year-old shared his thoughts with Canal del Futbol.
So, what did Kendry Paez say? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, Chelsea signed the teenager in a £17.3m deal from Independiente Del Valle back in June, the same club Brighton found Moises Caicedo at.
However, Paez cannot play for the Blues until he turns 18, so Chelsea fans will have to wait until the summer of 2025 until he moves to Stamford Bridge.
Nevertheless, the South American prodigy is still making headlines away from west London as he receives a call-up to the Ecuador senior team.
If Félix Sánchez chooses to play Paez against Argentina or Uruguay in the upcoming games, he would beat Diego Maradona’s record in becoming the youngest South American to play for a national team.

Speaking about his call-up and the prospect of smashing that record, the Ecuadorian prospect said: “Very happy to share with very top players, players from Europe. I’m very happy to be called up. At this age, it’s something spectacular in my career.
“Yes, I’m excited. I’m going to be training to see if they give me the confidence to make my debut, play some minutes and give my best. To be able to break the record.”
Chelsea must be careful with Kendry Paez
Clearly, Chelsea have signed a special talent. It speaks volumes that £17.3m has been spent on a 16-year-old.
However, Chelsea have a duty of care to protect Paez, and make sure that things do not get overwhelming for the very young attacker.

The Guayaquil-born wonderkid is already a regular at Independiente Del Valle and could now become one for Ecuador as well, so the spotlight is firmly on him.
Hopefully, Chelsea can help Paez deal with the huge attention, and he can become an important player for the Blues when he eventually turns 18.
