Kepa Arrizabalaga uploads Instagram message after Chelsea's defeat in League Cup final

Kepa Arrizabalaga has reacted on social media tonight after he was the unfortunate villain during Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup final.

Blues goalkeeper Kepa, who only came on as a substitute late into extra-time to replace “outstanding” teammate Edouard Mendy, couldn’t provide the penalty heroics on Sunday like on previous occasions during his Stamford Bridge career.

Thomas Tuchel’s side ended up losing 11-10 in the penalty shoot-out.

For Kepa, he failed to save any of the Liverpool spot-kicks. He missed his own penalty with the decisive last kick of the match, too.

Kepa’s uploaded a post on Instagram in the aftermath of the Chelsea cup final loss, which includes a special mention of thanks to fans for supporting him after penalty heartache.

Chelsea closer than people think

Yet again, Chelsea fought it out with Liverpool and were there equal for 120 minutes of action before penalties.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues side aren’t as far off Manchester City and Liverpool as people may think, especially when it comes to a one-off game.

It’s bitterly disappointing to lose on the weekend, but it’s not worth firing criticism at 27-year-old Kepa. The Spanish goalkeeper just couldn’t pull out another one of his penalty masterclass.

The biggest takeaway from the match should be that this Chelsea group belong at the top competing with the best.

For certain, they are major threats during the next few months in the Champions League and FA Cup.

It boiled down to a familiar issue today when it comes to being more ruthless in the top end of the pitch.
