Marc Cucurella claims 23-year-old Chelsea defender has ‘incredible’ shooting

Marc Cucurella has admitted he wishes he could shoot like Chelsea teammate Reece James.

James, who best suits a right wing-back position, offers a lot to the Blues as an attacking threat.

The 23-year-old defender is well known for his crosses into the box, but his shooting may actually be an underrated part of his game.

He’s a very clean striker of the ball when he shoots, whether that’s from open play or free-kicks.

He finished last season with six goals in 39 games. We think he’s capable of more, though.

Blues defender Cucurella, 24, has given huge praise to James.

When asked if he could take one part of a Chelsea teammate’s game, Cuurella told The 5th Stand App: “Reece James’s shooting. It’s just incredible.”

It does help highlight how important James and Ben Chilwell are to the Chelsea line-up from the wing-back roles.

Graham Potter has reverted to a back three system recently, which gets two of the club’s best players in their preferred positions high and wide.

With the Blues struggling for goals at the top end of the pitch, Chelsea’s wing-backs contribute so much when they play.

Thankfully, James is in training after missing the weekend’s Premier League win over Leicester City. Ruben Loftus-Cheek did provide an able deputy for the England international against Leicester, though.

Let’s hope Potter’s side can enter the international break next week off the back of a victory against Everton this Saturday.
