Trevoh Chalobah has told the Evening Standard that Graham Potter had been full of praise for him in training before last night’s game against AC Milan.

The 23-year-old was a forced substitute in the first half, having to replace goalscorer Wesley Fofana who looks to have gone down with a serious knee injury.

He came on and instantly looked as if he’d been on the pitch all game. In truth, it was only his first minutes on the pitch since Potter had taken over.

It had been reported that the new man in charge had pictured playing Chalobah in midfield going forwards.

However, he could be in for a big opportunity to impress at the back following the injury last night, one he has not been offered at all this season.

Chalobah has just one start this season for the Blues, featuring in their 2-1 win over Leicester City earlier in the campaign.

Chalobah impressing Potter

Nevertheless, he has claimed that the new man in charge has informed him that he has been impressing in the time since he took over.

He said: “I am at Chelsea, this is my club. “Every time I get the chance I want to show the manager that I am good enough to play. Any chance I get I need to do my best and let the manager decide. [Potter] said I have been training well so take it into the game. He knew I was ready and what I could do.

“Playing at a big club like Chelsea, you’ve got to be ready. If you are not playing you need to know what you need to do better. It starts in training. I’ve been ready for a couple of games now and I got my chance today and hopefully, I can take it.

“I felt good stepping on the pitch today. It has been a long time but it felt good and I can’t wait for the next game.”

The next game could see a rare start for the 23-year-old. Managerless Wolves visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with an opportunity to break into the top four on offer for the Blues.
