Raheem Sterling has admitted how excited he was to play with Mateo Kovacic this season after joining Chelsea in the summer.

Sterling, 27, left a star-studded Manchester City group back in July to make the move across the Premier League to Stamford Bridge.

The England attacker has played alongside so many elite players in his career, but he’s highlighted new teammate Kovacic for his incredible quality.

Kovacic, who’s a real fan favourite at Chelsea, has been so consistent in recent years for the Blues.

The 28-year-old central midfielder is massively underrated when it comes to how much he can influence a game of football with his dribbling, passing and overall work rate.

Sterling excited to play with Kovacic

When asked by BT Sport if there was a Chelsea player he was looking forward to linking up with when he joined, Sterling responded: “Kovacic. When we used to play him with [Manchester] City, I used to think, ‘Oh, my good gosh’. I’m not going to lie. Kova for sure. A couple of times he was doing some serious stuff against us.”

Most Chelsea fans will agree with Sterling when it comes to how good Kovacic is.

The Croatian midfielder definitely brings a new dynamic to the Blues XI when he’s on the pitch.

Described as “really important” by manager Graham Potter, he possesses the ability to get his team up the pitch by breaking the lines and always looking forward.

There were perhaps some eyebrows raised when Chelsea shelled out £40million to sign Kovacic back in 2019 from Real Madrid, but it’s actually turned out to be an excellent deal.

The Blues have made plenty of errors in the transfer window during recent times. This is one deal they got bang on the money, though.

Let’s hope he try stay injury free for the rest of the season because he makes such a difference.
