Thiago Silva has opened up on his situation at Chelsea – and explained why a dream return to Fluminense has not happened yet.

The Brazilian made the comments when speaking to Globo.

So, what did Thiago Silva say about life at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the 38-year-old declared his love for Chelsea back in May – telling the club’s official website that he plans to stay at Stamford Bridge for the next two years.

The centre-back said: “The whole family have fallen in love with Chelsea. My sons, Isago and Iago, both play for Chelsea. Isago has extended his contract here for the next two seasons, which means we are going to be here for two years.”

However, Silva has now opened up on his dream move to Fluminense, and claims that a return to Brazil is difficult to speak about with his family, as his children are happy in London.

The Chelsea No.6 did also admit that he will revisit the situation next summer, suggesting he may opt to depart Stamford Bridge for good in 12 months.

Silva told Globo: “Everyone knows how much I would like to return to Fluminense, but today it’s hard to talk to my family (about it) because my children don’t want to live in Brazil. It’s a very complicated situation, but we still have a year to reflect and understand what we’re going to do next year.”

Mauricio Pochettino must ensure Thiago Silva feels loved at Chelsea

Clearly, the £96,000-a-week man is feeling a bit torn in his professional life right now.

That could lead to Silva being a bit disillusioned or unfocused at Chelsea next season, so it is important for Mauricio Pochettino to keep him engaged in a season where he is not expected to start every week, following the emergence of Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile, as well as his age.

Nevertheless, Silva is one of few experienced players at Chelsea as Todd Boehly focuses on signing young talent, so Pochettino needs his wisdom and leadership skills to help the transitional period run smoothly.

Whatever happens, we wouldn’t genuinely expect the situation to cause Silva many issues – he is one of the most professional footballers around, and will surely deal with things maturely.
