Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has claimed in an interview with Football Daily that Eden Hazard is the best player he ever played with at Stamford Bridge.

The England international has today announced his retirement from football after being without a club for this campaign.

He was last season playing for Bournemouth, helping them in the early stages of last season towards their eventual promotion back to the top flight.

His career ends best known for his time in West London, where he won practically everything on offer in the blue of Chelsea.

He raced into fan’s hearts with a dogged yet brilliant display in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, as Roberto di Matteo’s men did the unthinkable in 2012.

After that, he became first choice partner for John Terry, before transitioning into a three at the back specialist under Antonio Conte in another Premier League win.

When looking back at his time at the club, he has claimed former teammate Hazard is the most talented player he had the pleasure of sharing the pitch with.

He said: “The best player I’ve played with is tough because I’ve planed with so many great players.

“I think from just natural ability, it would have to be Eden Hazard. I think the days when I was with him at Chelsea, he was unplayable at times.”

Hazard today has confirmed that a rumoured return to the club is not something on the radar, with him yet to even receive contact from the Blues over a potential reunion.

Cahill will best be remembered as a defender who gave his all for a number of seasons as the clubs best option, whilst having an ability to find the net only matched by Terry from his position.

Happy retirement, skipper!
