'Working really hard': Cesar Azpilicueta names the Chelsea player who's really impressed him in training recently

Cesar Azpilicueta added to Christian Pulisic’s excellent few days by praising his Chelsea teammate’s efforts on the training pitch.

As quoted by the club website, Azpilicueta credited the American’s match-winner against West Ham United to the work he’s been putting in behind the scenes.

All eyes on the American

Pulisic became the man of the moment on Sunday, scoring late at Stamford Bridge to snatch the points away from the Hammers.

Before his introduction in the 76th minute, Chelsea had only conjured up a handful of chances that were mainly denied by Craig Dawson.

Trevoh Chalobah was forced to strike from range, whilst N’Golo Kante’s deflected shot off Dawson fell kindly into the arms of Lukasz Fabianski.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s triple substitution ultimately proved decisive.

Romelu Lukaku drew the foul from Dawson inside the penalty area that eventually got the West Ham defender sent off.

Jorginho stepped up to the spot, but gave Fabianski the easiest of tasks by rolling the ball straight into his path.

Fortunately for the Italian, Pulisic popped up to rescue the day for Chelsea.

The 23-year-old confidently converted Marcos Alonso’s accurate cross, following a rare forward move full of purpose and precision.

“Amazing ball by Marcos, a good cut back and great finish,” said Azpilicueta whilst describing the goal.

“That is the way we were creating chances, arriving in the box and crossing the ball, arriving from the second line and of course it was a big impact from Christian, Romelu and Hakim (Ziyech) as well.

“They gave us a different spirit, we are a team and we have to go through these moments together. We need help from everybody.”

“I am really pleased for Christian,” continued the captain.

“Lately he has not had a lot of minutes but he has been working really hard. He got the reward, and hopefully he can keep going in this direction.”

Pulisic certainly has not played a lot of domestic football recently.

He lasted started a Premier League game at the beginning of March, with his only previous goal arriving just over a week later.

But with the fixtures continuing to come thick and fast, Christian should see more of the football before the campaign concludes.
