Simon Jordan has criticised Chelsea’s Thiago Silva for comments he made this week.

Thiago Silva, 38, is a key Chelsea player that has recently spoken out about the oversized squad at Stamford Bridge.

The centre-back appeared to take a swipe at the club’s recruitment strategy over the past year, which has led to them being stuck with a ridiculously large squad size.

Speaking after Chelsea’s Champions League exit on Tuesday night, Silva let his feelings known. He said, as quoted by The Telegraph: “A positive point is that there are amazing players in the squad, but on the other hand there are always players that are going to be unhappy. There is always going to be someone upset because not everyone can play. The manager can only pick 11 from a squad of 30-something – that’s tough.

“Some can’t make the squad, we signed eight in January, we need to stop and put a strategy in place otherwise next season we could make the same mistakes.”

In our view, Chelsea’s senior defender has pretty much hit the nail on the head.

It’s been a thankless task for all the different men to sit in the manager’s dugout this season, which just goes to what a tough spot the club are in.

If the Blues can significantly trim the squad in the summer transfer window, as well as appoint a new top manager, things could look very different next season.

TalkSPORT pundit Jordan has ripped into Silva after hearing the Chelsea man’s words.

He suggests that it’s not up to the players at a football club to pick flaws in the overall strategy:

“When you start having players speak about the strategy of a football club, yes, of course, they’re adults and entitled to their views, but there is a natural order,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“The players really should be focusing on their job, which is turning up on the pitch, which they most certainly have not done this season. So with that in mind, it makes it a bit rich when you’ve got a player lecturing those around him about the failings of what they’re doing and the mistakes that are being made.

“He’s not necessarily wrong to suggest there is a difficulty in managing a group of players. Do you know what’s more difficult? Having 25 players that aren’t very good.”
