Jamie O’Hara has admitted he’s “in awe” of the brilliance of Chelsea’s Thiago Silva.

Silva, at the age of 38, continues to perform head and shoulders above most defenders in the Premier League.

The veteran centre-back may be playing for a Chelsea side that are going through a difficult season, but he continues to be a shining light with his performances in most games.

If you watch him defend, you can see he’s mastered the art over many years of breaking up play and reading the game.

Jamie O’Hara in awe of Thiago Silva

TalkSPORT pundit O’Hara has waxed lyrical about Chelsea’s centre-half for the way he’s been performing.

In fact, he made an interesting comment that he could have been the Premier League’s all-time best centre-back if he had arrived in England earlier in his career.

When discussing Silva on talkSPORT, O’Hara said: “He’s an absolute Rolls-Royce.

“If he had played in the Premier League 10 years ago, he would be going down as the greatest Premier League centre-half we’ve ever seen.

“We are getting him at the end of his career, and I’m still in awe of how good he is. He’s so good. It’s actually ridiculous at 38 years of age.”

Silva may only be two-and-a-half seasons into his Chelsea career, but he’s already cemented himself a legacy with the fanbase.

He was actually included in the Premier League’s stats-based team of the year for 2022, which is quite remarkable when you consider Chelsea’s decline over the last 12 months.

There are plenty in the current Blues squad that should be looking at themselves frustrated with their own levels. You certainly couldn’t say that about Silva, though.
