‘All over the place’: Jamie Carragher rips into 24-year-old player Chelsea sold last year

Jamie Carragher has insisted he wouldn’t pick former Chelsea player Fikayo Tomori in the England squad for the World Cup.

England supporters are nervously waiting to hear the official Three Lions squad for the World Cup, with manager Gareth Southgate naming his 26-man group this week.

Unfortunately, Chelsea’s Reece James has reportedly been informed by Southgate that he’s not made the final squad because of his knee injury. Elsewhere, Blues teammate Ben Chilwell could reportedly be sidelined for three months with his injury and will miss the World Cup in Qatar.

Carragher wouldn’t pick Tomori

Tomori, who Chelsea sold to AC Milan last year in the 2021 summer window, has put himself into England contention for his form in Italy.

However, the 24-year-old did have a couple of poor games against Chelsea in October in the Champions League.

The rapid centre-back suffered back-to-back defeats against his former side and was even sent off in one of the meetings.

Carragher has selected his preferred 26-man England squad, which doesn’t include Tomori as a defensive option.

In fact, he’s actually ripped into the Milan star.

When quizzed about Tomori’s absence from his World Cup squad, Carragher responded on Twitter: “The same fella who was all over the place against Chelsea twice? Yeah I’m not taking him.”

It seems a harsh response over Tomori’s abilities because he was a talisman in a Milan side that won Serie A last season.

It was always going to be nervous and tough for him returning to Chelsea, so don’t read too much into his performances last month.

It won’t be a surprise to see him shine in Milan colours next year when Milan face Tottenham in a two-legged Champions League last-16 tie.

The centre-back spot seems like the most uncertain area in England’s squad for the World Cup, which is why it’s going to be fascinating to see who makes it.
