Darren Bent says £60m Chelsea player is making it difficult for Mykhailo Mudryk to do well

Darren Bent thinks that Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is making it difficult for teammate Mykhailo Mudryk to play his best football.

Cucurella, who joined the Blues for £60million last summer, is having a difficult debut season at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old left-back has come under-fire for the level of his performances, with the former Brighton man struggling to recapture the same kind of form he showed at the Amex Stadium last year.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter even recently admitted the full-back is struggling with his individual form.

Impact on Mykhailo Mudryk

According to Darren Bent, Cucurella’s performances are having a negative impact on Mudryk.

22-year-old Mudryk, who joined the club in January, is a left-winger that plays directly in front of Cucurella.

It was evident on the weekend in the West Ham draw that the Ukrainian attacker did find it difficult to get too heavily involved with a shaky full-back operating behind him.

“I like Mudryk. If you’re playing in front of a full-back that doesn’t pass the ball forward, then what are you supposed to do? Every time Cucurella gets it, he passes it backwards. That’s not getting the best out of him,” Bent told Ben Foster’s YouTube channel.

In our view, you’ll see a much better version of Mudryk once Ben Chilwell is fully fit and operating at left-back each game.

It’s important to stress that nobody should be writing off Cucurella’s Blues career just a few months into it, but he does need pulling out of the firing line while he’s struggling for form and confidence.

There should be a lot more opportunities for Mudryk to drift into clever pockets when Chilwell is racing forward. Also, he’s a player that loves to attack when possible and to get the ball forward.

A Mudryk-Chilwell combination is certainly one that could be really exciting on Chelsea’s left in the future.
