Jamie Redknapp has likened Jude Bellingham to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp contrasted the skills between the Borussia Dortmund ace and the Stamford Bridge icon.
Bellingham should be getting used to all these extravagant comparisons.
Jermaine Pennant contrasted the England international with Steven Gerrard, whilst Wayne Rooney has also been used as a point of similarity.
Gerrard was mentioned again by one of his former teammates whilst discussing the Dortmund player, alongside his fellow Premier League great.
“I remember when Stevie first got into the Liverpool team at 17 and you realise you’re in the presence of greatness because they move the ball differently. I think Jude is a bit like that,” said Redknapp.
“They are alike. They are just great midfield players and generational to be honest. Stevie, Frank Lampard; he’s a little bit of everything Jude. That’s what I like about him. He’s very controlled. He’s just an exceptional young man.”
Bellingham likened to Lampard
Tags like these might crush a young footballer through pressure and expectation.
Bellingham is not like any young footballer on the planet, however.
The 19-year-old almost basks in the anticipation that he must deliver time and time again on the grandest stage.
He certainly managed just that for England yesterday.
As World Cup debuts go, Bellingham’s couldn’t have gone much smoother.
His performance in midfield was almost perfect, albeit against an Iran side who offered very little in the way of a threat.
Bellingham took the match by the scruff of the neck – much like Gerrard used to – and arrived late in the box to score a brilliant header; Lampard-esque?
It was a performance super Frank would’ve been proud of, and one he’d certainly endorse wanting to see regularly at Chelsea.
Lampard recently admitted he tried to sign the teenager whilst still in the dugout in South West London.
Todd Boehly reportedly shares this view, as he is apparently eager to add Bellingham to Graham Potter’s squad.
If there is even the slim chance of forming the next Frank Lampard, do what it takes Todd to get Bellingham.
