Frank Leboeuf thinks Chelsea could be about to sign a defender who’s better than Levi Colwill

Frank Leboeuf has explained why he’s a massive fan of Monaco star Axel Disasi, who could soon be on his way to Chelsea this summer.

Axel Disasi, who’s now 25, is strongly linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on X that Disasi will undergo a medical on Tuesday ahead of a €45million (£39million) transfer from Monaco to Chelsea.

The French defender is set to join a very strong group of centre-backs in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

ESPN pundit Leboeuf has given a huge thumbs up regarding transfer speculation that Disasi will join the Blues.

Interestingly, he’s suggested the Monaco powerhouse would be an immediate starter in his Chelsea line-up, potentially alongside Thiago Silva. That would leave no room in the starting XI for highly-rated Blues centre-half Levi Colwill.

“I like him. Very talented centre-back. The guy is strong; he’s massive. He’s experienced, and that’s very good,” Leboeuf told ESPN.

“He’s strong, he’s powerful, and he has technique. He’s a perfect match for Thiago Silva. There’s lots of centre-backs at Chelsea, but he’s my first choice if he comes.”

Wesley Fofana’s latest injury is a blow to Chelsea’s options in the heart of defence, but they still have Colwill, Silva, Benoit Badiashile or Trevoh Chalobah as alternative options.

It looks like the Blues want to strengthen further with Disasi, though, who’s set for Premier League football for the first time in his career.

Many supporters are tipping Colwill, 20, to get his chance in the side when the campaign begins.

However, Leboeuf suggests Chelsea’s new imminent signing is currently operating at a higher level.

It’s one area of the pitch where we expect Pochettino to have a real selection headache over on a weekly basis!
