Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante is no longer as good as he used to be.

It’s no secret that N’Golo Kante, 32, has had his problems with injuries in the past couple of years. For instance, he’s played just seven first-team games across all competitions this season.

The French midfielder has watched most of this campaign from the sidelines, but we’ve seen him reintroduced to the team in the past month.

A really poor run of results recently for the Blues is a sign of how poorly the side are playing right now, but you could perhaps find some hope from the way Kante has performed in moments. In particular, the £30million (BBC) midfielder was at his brilliant best earlier in April during a goalless draw against Liverpool.

TalkSPORT pundit Agbonlahor, who was picking a combined XI between Aston Villa and Chelsea, opted not to include Kante.

A,so he’s had a small dig at the 32-year-old star by claiming he’s got worse and is no longer at his best level.

“N’Golo Kante has been out injured and he is not the same Kante he used to be,” Agbonlahor told talKSPORT.

We still think there’s life left in Kante, which is why we would love him to sign a new contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer. However, we understand the club need to take into consideration his injury record.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent recently explained Chelsea’s caretaker manager Frank Lampard has confused him by playing Kante as an attacking midfielder in the previous two games.

It’s pretty common knowledge by now that the France international is a box-to-box central midfielder who can be destructive in breaking up play and breaking the lines.

A Kante operating at 90 per cent of his level can still run rings around plenty of top opponents.
