Hasselbaink says one Chelsea player was let down by his teammates in Arsenal defeat

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was let down by his teammates in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Aubameyang made only eight touches in the 64 minutes he played in the game, before being replaced by Armando Broja in the second half.

Even Broja, who according to Mark Schwarzer also failed to make an impact, had more touches (14) despite playing 38 minutes less.

However, Hasselbaink said there were a few moments in which Aubameyang made a good run in the game, but the ball did not get to him.

Hasselbaink highlighted that In the first half, the former Gabon international could have had a big chance if Kai Havertz had not crossed the ball to an empty area.

“We were talking about Aubameyang’s having only scored one goal [in the league] so far,” the former Chelsea striker told Premier League Productions (via Optus Sport).

“But he [did] everything right [in the game against Arsenal]. He was in the middle of the goal, he stopped and checked.

“He only needed that yard, that yard that [Manchester City’s Erling] Haaland gets.

“But his [Haaland] teammates find him, and he just has to find the corner [of the goal].

“That’s the difference.”

There are very few people who know more about striker movements than Hasselbaink, so he likely had a great point.

Chelsea were not much better in attack after Aubameyang left the pitch as well, so his lack of involvement was clearly not the only problem.
