‘He doesn’t do enough’: Hasselbaink claims Chelsea player didn’t look bothered in loss vs Arsenal

Jimmy Floyd Hasslbaink has seriously criticised Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku by claiming he didn’t look bothered in his team’s 4-2 defeat to Arsenal last night.

The Blues suffered a crushing Premier League loss at Stamford Bridge against Arsenal, as their poor home form continued in midweek.

Thomas Tuchel’s side came from behind twice to enter half time at 2-2. However, a really weak display in the second half ensured zero points, and it leaves them with plenty of work to do to keep third spot in the league table.

Lukaku, 28, was given a rare start against Arsenal yesterday by being promoted into the XI.

Unfortunately, the centre-forward didn’t last the full 90 minutes during a really quiet performance.

Pundit and ex-Chelsea striker Hasselbaink questioned Lukaku’s attitude in his post-match analysis.

“Going back to Lukaku, he doesn’t do enough. If you want to be the man you need to run around, you need to try to show that you are bothered,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (9:55pm, 20 April).

“You need to want to suffer, he doesn’t run around, he doesn’t go into gaps, he doesn’t demand the ball off his players, he doesn’t go into space.”

Lukaku wastes Chelsea opportunity

It was a big chance last night for Lukaku to rediscover some form, but it ultimately ended in failure.

The Belgian frontman offered very little as an attacking threat before his manager substituted him off on the hour mark.

It’s a different opportunity when you start a game compared to regular substitute appearances, which is why yesterday was so huge for him.

He made just 15 passes during his time on the pitch against Arsenal. There was just the one shot attempt from him, too.

It was an opportunity to put some pressure on teammate Kai Havertz for a starting position, but you feel like the gap has only widened further now.
