Darren Bent thinks Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is “outstanding” amid strong transfer rumours linking him to Chelsea.

Fofana, 21, is a centre-back linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

It’s been reported Chelsea are pressing ahead with plans to try sign the Leicester star, who could cost as much as £80million in total. Incidentally, paying a transfer fee of that size would make him the club’s second most expensive signing ever behind Romelu Lukaku.

The French youngster has drawn even more eyes to his attention after removing mentions of current club Leicester on Twitter earlier today.

Bent thinks Fofana is outstanding

TalkSPORT pundit Bent is completely understanding of Chelsea’s £80million links to Leicester’s rising star.

In particular, he recalls how good Fofana was before a long-term injury problem that saw him missing the majority of last season before a strong end towards the back of it.

“He’s a good player. Before he got the injury, he was outstanding… I can understand [paying £80million] because they’re buying potential,” Bent told talkSPORT.

Get it done

Hopefully, Chelsea can do their best to drive down the valuation on Fofana’s head.

Regardless, this is a transfer that looks like a no-brainer and could be such a great long-term investment.

The ball-playing centre-back is ready to make an immediate impact in the Chelsea line-up, especially after showing his quality and temperament at Premier League level in Leicester colours.

He’s someone Blues fans will hope can be around for the next decade in their side, so this may be one worth coughing up the pennies for.
