‘His shoulders are down’: Peter Crouch thinks £33m Chelsea player is really struggling right now

Peter Crouch thinks Hakim Ziyech looks like a player that has no confidence following his latest Chelsea performance in midweek.

Chelsea started life under the new head coach, Graham Potter, last night with a 1-1 home draw against Red Bull Salzburg.

Unfortunately, Raheem Sterling’s fourth goal of the season wasn’t enough to earn all three points in the Champions League group stage match.

With this weekend’s game against Liverpool postponed, the Blues don’t play again until 1 October due to the upcoming international break.

Ziyech has no confidence

BT Sport pundit Crouch shared his concern for Ziyech after his display against Salzburg:

“I think there is a little lack of confidence in certain players. We see Ziyech come on, you can see his shoulders are down and he doesn’t look like a player full of confidence,” Crouch told BT Sport 3 (9:55pm, 14 September).

Ziyech only got a brief outing from the bench in the final 10 minutes at home to Salzburg, but he had plenty of opportunities to write his name into the headlines.

The £33million wide man couldn’t quite find his shooting boots, as well as coming up short with attempted crosses. It’s worth pointing out he did manage two shots and get heavily involved in his cameo display, though.

Interestingly, Glenn Hoddle noticed on co-commentary that he came in for plenty of criticism from the home crowd.

It feels like the fanbase have completely given up on Ziyech, but the player himself needs to try stand firm and focus on his football.

In fairness, he’s got another opportunity now that Potter has joined to try reignite his Blues career.

Some many feel the winger’s future will lie away from West London, but let’s see if Potter can bring the best out of him in the next few months.
