Paul Merson has been thoroughly impressed by the performances of Chelsea defender Thiago Silva at the World Cup so far.
Writing for Sportskeeda, Merson metaphorically beamed when discussing the Brazil captain.
Silva has once again rewound the clock out in Qatar, as he continues to churn out dazzling displays at the tender age of 38.
He has started all but one of his nation’s four fixtures so far, conceding just once in the process.
Chelsea’s stalwart centre-back even provided a delicate assist for Richarlison to score Brazil’s third against South Korea in the round of 16.

Thiago Silva shines at the World Cup
“I’m a massive fan of Thiago Silva as well – he’s been outstanding at the World Cup,” Merson merrily mentioned whilst predicting the outcome of Brazil’s clash with Croatia later today.
“When he goes up for a header, he doesn’t just clear it as far as he can.
“He nods it down to his teammates. If Brazil are to win the World Cup this year, they’ll need Thiago Silva at his best.”
Brazil are extremely likely to add a sixth star to their shirt, in no small part to Silva’s dominance in defence.
Whilst Tite’s attacking talents have stolen the headlines, the wise old warrior has provided them with the platform to showcase their skills.
Along with Marquinhos, Silva is the backbone for Selecao Canarinho to samba their way through the competition.
Yet, Brazil must overcome their next obstacle if they are to reclaim global glory.
Croatia are no pushovers, as proved at the previous World Cup, where they reached the final.
With Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic still controlling the midfield, and Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol guarding the goal, Zlatko Dalic’s side are not to be underestimated.
