'I'm not going anywhere': TalkSPORT pundit urges Chelsea star to stay at Stamford Bridge next season

Romelu Lukaku should stay at Chelsea and prove his doubters wrong, insists Darren Bent.

Lukaku, who turned 29 this month, has been firmly under the spotlight during his first year back in English football.

The centre-forward’s season ended with 15 goals in 44 Chelsea appearances across all competitions, but he fell a long way short of expectations for large spells of the year.

It’s been reported the Belgian striker would already like a return to ex-club Inter Milan this summer. He would need to reduce his salary in half to complete that transfer, though.

Romelu Lukaku should stay at Chelsea

TalkSPORT pundit Bent would like to see Lukaku remain at Stamford Bridge next year to prove his true quality.

The left-footed frontman has proven throughout his successful career what a good goalscorer he is, but many have criticised his failure to fit into Thomas Tuchel’s side.

A real low point in his season was during March and April when most of his appearances for the Blues came from the bench.

“Thomas Tuchel, he might not see Lukaku as his number nine. If I’m Lukaku, I’m telling you right now I’m not going anywhere. I want to stay and prove to people this is why Chelsea spent the money on me. First season wasn’t great, but bounce back and score between 20 and 25 goals next season to shut up all the doubters,” Bent told talkSPORT.

Pressure won’t go away

If Lukaku stays next season, he’ll have to cope with the same level of pressure.

His £97.5million transfer fee isn’t going anywhere, plus Chelsea supporters are absolutely desperate to have a clinical number nine that scores goals for fun.

Is he prepared to knuckle down and give it another opportunity next year, though?
