Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on The Football Terrace Youtube’s channel that Chelsea are attempting to pull off a deal to sign Presnel Kimpembe this summer, despite it being a very challenging transfer.

This is despite the player’s loyalty to PSG, with the Blues reportedly set to struggle to convince him to leave the club he has spent his whole professional career with.

Thomas Tuchel is keen on a reunion with the centre-back, and the club have reportedly made the decision to pursue him after conversations with international teammate N’golo Kante.

However, Jacobs claims the club could run into problems in terms of convincing the Frenchman to make the switch, even though he is intrigued over the rumours linking him with the Blues.

He said: “Kimpembe is a difficult one, simply because he had a conversation with Christophe Galtier.

“Galtier in particular really likes Kimpembe, and has made it very clear to a player who has been very loyal to PSG that the final decision on his future will be his and his alone.

“PSG are open to a sale for the right price, Chelsea have not agreed a fee with Kimpembe. It’s not an impossible transfer, they’ve not ended all interest but it is very very clear that Kimpembe is settled in Paris so even if a fee is to be agreed, Kimpembe could still roadblock that.

“It’s all about convincing the player. I think eventually a back and forth would establish a fee with PSG because they are listening to offers, but they’re very respectful of Kimpembe whose been a loyal servant to PSG. He is intrigued by a Chelsea move, but not to the point that he may leave.”

Tuchel’s desire to sign strengthen at the back has seen Chelsea linked to a number of defenders, with strong rumours linking them to a move for Jules Kounde.

If only one transfer is possible this summer, the Blues should choose the Sevilla man as their priority.

With Cesar Azpilicueta’s likely departure, the Blues are lacking depth at either right-centre-back or right-wing-back, and Kounde’s ability to play either role should encourage them to push for a deal.

While a direct Antonio Rudiger replacement is yet to be signed, Kalidou Koulibaly can feature seamlessly in that role, while Levi Colwill also provides competent cover despite his young age.
