Jody Morris is convinced that Edouard Mendy has been one of the best performers in the Premier League this season after his incredible performance in the 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday.

Six saves, five from inside the box, and a deserved man-of-the-match award, it is safe to say that the 29-year-old single-handedly secured Chelsea another derby win.

It was a very shaky performance overall, particularly in the second half, from Chelsea’s point of view, and they were very fortunate to have the reliable Senegal international to save the day.

Former Chelsea midfielder and coach Morris even believes that Mendy has proved to be one of the most in-form players in the league this season, alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

“Won’t get the same plaudits,” he added in another tweet, “but his level of performance in his position is upper echelon.”

Well, perhaps Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly was right that Mendy should have made the 30-man Ballon d’Or nomination list all along.

Thanks to the win, Chelsea have now reclaimed their spot at the top of the league table with 19 points from eight games, one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool.
