Jamie Carragher has a theory about Chelsea’s Mason Mount, suggesting that he’s regularly picked to start by his manager because he’s brilliant at taking on instructions.
Mount, who’s started the opening two games of the Premier League season for Chelsea, is one of the nailed-on starters at Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has been a key player during Thomas Tuchel’s reign in charge as Blues manager.
He finished last season with 13 goals and 16 assists in 53 games across all competitions, so would surely love similar numbers and game time this year.

Carragher theory about Mount
In his assessment of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham at the weekend, Carragher singled out the importance of Mount in his work off the ball.
He suggests the Chelsea and England star is a manager’s dream because he can perfectly follow tactical messages from coaches.
“We’ve mentioned Mount’s job and [N’Golo] Kante’s job on the two [Spurs] central midfielders is to lock them in,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (7:30pm, 15 August).
“Kante now jumps to the centre-back and I want you to keep an eye on Mason Mount. One of the reasons why this lad keeps getting picked for Chelsea and keeps getting picked for England is because he can take on instruction and tactical instructions from a coach.”

Mount brilliance
Mount’s going to be largely judged on his overall contributions, especially when he’s playing further up the pitch in one of the three attacking positions.
However, he gives so much to the Chelsea line-up both in and out of possession.
At such a young age, he’s an incredibly intelligent player, and it appears that any manager that’s worked with him loves him.
He’s recently explained he’s eager to take the captain’s armband whenever it becomes available, which just highlights the confidence and kind of personality he is.
His ability to carry out Tuchel’s wishes on the pitch is so vital.
