Ally McCoist has told Chelsea to let Romelu Lukaku go as the Belgian pushes to leave Stamford Bridge for Inter Milan.

The 30-year-old is even ready to bring lawyers into the conversation to force through an exit, according to Corriere Dello Sport in Italy.

So, what did Ally McCoist say about Romelu Lukaku? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the 60-year-old warned Chelsea not to keep the Belgium international at Stamford Bridge against his will.

McCoist told talkSPORT: “You’ve got to let him go. After the comments he made a year ago, his heart’s not in it. I think he wants to stay in Serie A. I don’t think there’s any point at all in keeping players that don’t want to be at your football club. It can create a bad atmosphere in the dressing room. Lukaku doesn’t want to play for Chelsea, simple.”

We couldn’t agree more.

If Lukaku was guaranteed to score at least 20 goals under Pochettino next season, it may have been worth holding discussions about keeping him at Chelsea.

However, the Antwerp-born striker does not even guarantee that, netting just eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances throughout the 2021/22 campaign following his £97.5m move from Inter Milan.

Now, Lukaku’s insistence on another move to the San Siro will surely anger anyone at Stamford Bridge who was still on his side.

Lukaku has disrespected Chelsea

As far as big-money signings go, this has been a complete and utter disaster for Chelsea.

Lukaku has not only failed on the pitch since returning to Stamford Bridge in what was a club-record move at the time, but he has also embarrassed the Blues with his comments in the media.

As McCoist referred to, that famous interview just months after his return to Chelsea, in which the Belgian expressed his love for Inter Milan and admitted he would like to return one day, was a significant moment.

Lukaku doesn’t even look like he’s tried to rebuild any bridges since uttering those comments, and is currently making things worse.

If, for whatever reason, the striker does end up staying at Chelsea next season, we don’t think he’ll be too popular at Stamford Bridge.
