Micah Richards says Chelsea defender struggled in FA Cup final defeat to Liverpool

Micah Richards said Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah had a hard time dealing with Liverpool forward Luis Diaz during the FA Cup final defeat.

The game, painfully for Chelsea, ended in another penalty shootout loss, but Liverpool had the better goalscoring chances.

Liverpool’s biggest threat in the game was of course Diaz, who was also named the man of the match.

The 25-year-old made shot attempts in the game, with one hitting the woodwork.

The reason Diaz got into so many goalscoring positions, according to Richards, is due to Chalobah’s often having to defend against him one on one.

“Diaz has been frightening – Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah don’t quite know when to go and when to stay,” the former Manchester City man told BBC One during the game.

“Chalobah has been left isolated one v one against one of the best players on the pitch and Chelsea have got lucky.”

Chelsea kept a clean sheet in the 120 minutes and, like in the Carabao Cup final, were quite unlucky in the penalty shootout.

Edouard Mendy’s heroic penalty save was in vain in the end after Mason Mount’s miss.
