Michael Owen thinks that Chelsea could be a surprise package this season in the Premier League.
The Blues begin their new league campaign in eight days when they host rivals Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Mauricio Pochettino sits in the manager’s dugout as the new head coach, so all eyes will be on him to try to lift a team that finished 12th in the league last season.

Michael Owen has posted his full Premier League prediction for the 2023/24 season on Twitter, which includes Chelsea finishing fifth this year. Incidentally, he’s gone for Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United as the top four in that order.
Afterwards, he justified the reason behind putting Chelsea in fifth spot.
“I covered three of Chelsea’s pre-season games. This is a new-look team and are so hard to predict. No European football and more signings on the horizon. They could surprise a few,” Owen wrote on Twitter.

Chelsea finishing inside the top four has been the minimum standard for the club’s managers in the past couple of decades, but perhaps the goalposts have moved slightly during this new era.
For starters, the Blues must ensure they’re back playing Europe next season. It’s uncertain how effectively this young squad is going to gel together, though.
If Pochettino can get the best from this squad of players, we’re confident that the club can get back competing around the top-four position after a one-year absence.
The arrivals of Axel Disasi and Robert Sanchez this week as the latest new signings suggests Chelsea are still pushing to improve the squad.
