Nevin has spotted what Chelsea players have been doing 'within seconds' every time Chukwuemeka has been subbed on

Pat Nevin claims Chelsea players are giving Carney Chukwuemeka the ball “within seconds” whenever he comes off the bench.

Chukwuemeka, 19, is an exciting youngster that left Aston Villa in the summer to make a glamorous move to Stamford Bridge.

The teenage midfielder is yet to make his first Chelsea start, but he’s actually now made three appearances from the bench, all of which have been since Graham Potter took charge as manager.

He’s enjoyed cameo performances in the Premier League against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brentford and Manchester United this month.

Nevin has spotted something quite interesting during the first-team minutes Chelsea’s young talent gets.

He claims that his senior teammates are showing trust in him by giving him possession immediately.

“His appearances have looked assured and most Chelsea fans who have watched his cameos now know that he is pushing very hard for a start, maybe even before the month is out,” Nevin wrote for the club’s official website.

“One of the first things I look at when I see a new, but particularly a young player come on, is how is teammates work with him. Do they trust him? Do they give him the ball in tight areas? Do they make runs believing he has the quality to find them? Well, the answers were all yes, within seconds each time he has come on.

“The first stand out is that he has stunning pace driving from midfield, but the other qualities have quickly revealed themselves and I can’t wait for him to get even more game time.”

Chukwuemeka is training with Chelsea’s main group constantly, so he’s a fully integrated part of the squad that will be used to playing with his teammates. Of course, it’s a different experience showing your quality on a match day.

Nevin makes a very valid point that the summer signing doesn’t look out of place in Potter’s side.

He’s got a real physical presence, especially for someone so young, that does make him stand out on the pitch. There is a fearlessness and quickness to his game in these cameos, too.

A lot of Chelsea supporters are desperate to see him get his first start for the club. From what we’ve seen it could be very soon.

Described as someone with “huge potential” by Potter, Chukwuemeka is a rising star we hope to see more from.
