'No idea why they suffer it': TalkSPORT pundit urges these two Chelsea players to leave club this summer
Andy Townsend claims Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley should leave Chelsea during this summer transfer window.
Batshuayi and Barkley, who have spent six years and four years at Stamford Bridge respectively, have both been involved during Chelsea’s pre-season tour this summer.
First of all, Belgian centre-forward Batshuayi is with the current group after returning from a decent loan spell at Besiktas last season. The 28-year-old’s entering the final year of his Chelsea contract, so it’ll be interesting to see how his future pans out.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old attacking midfielder Barkley spent last season as a fringe player in Thomas Tuchel’s squad. He made only 14 first-team appearances for the Blues last year and his contract in West London expires in 2023. Incidentally, it’s been reported Everton have been offered the chance to sign Barkley this summer.
Batshuayi and Barkley should leave Chelsea
TalkSPORT pundit Townsend is baffled that the aforementioned duo are still on Chelsea’s books ahead of the new campaign.
He feels both need to force transfers elsewhere to find a permanent home:
“I think they need to start turning over some of these guys that come to Chelsea and sit around for a very long time. I don’t know how they do it those guys,” Townsend told talkSPORT.
“I don’t know how Batshuayi and Barkley continually go out on loan… it would drive anyone demented. I have no idea why they suffer it.
“Yes, they’re getting a load of money. But they’ll get good money elsewhere. Go and make something of your life and your career.”
Best for all parties
In fairness, Townsend’s bang on the money with his latest assessment.
It’s hard to picture either Batshuayi or Barkley forcing their way into Tuchel’s plans moving forward, so permanent exits before this transfer window will make sense.
However, are there any clubs willing to fork out for them when their contracts have just a year to run?
