Joe Cole claims Chelsea talent Carney Chukwuemeka is currently one of the best young players in England.
Chukwuemeka, 18, is an exciting youngster to come through the Aston Villa ranks in recent years.
However, Chelsea swooped in this summer to sign the teenager for an eye-catching £20million fee.
The central midfielder’s had a taste of senior action with 16 first-team appearances, but he’s now made the big leap by moving to Stamford Bridge.
It’s definitely a good sign that he’s been regularly pictured in first-team training. Also, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel recently explained he’s impressed by the “physicality” of the upcoming talent.
Chukwuemeka one of the best
Joe Cole has shared he’s absolutely delighted to see Chukwuemeka join Chelsea this summer.
He even rates the England Under-19 international as one of the brightest young prospects in the country right now.
“Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa is one of the most talented players in England. That signing is even more important when you realise that signing young players from Europe has changed since Brexit,” Cole told the Evening Standard.
“It important that even if we pay a bit more than we want to, that we’re getting the best young British players in the door for the next generation.”
Chelsea debut on the horizon?
Despite the fact there’s a lot of quality in the centre of the park for Chelsea, Chukwuemeka’s involvement in senior training suggests he’s in Tuchel’s thoughts.
He wasn’t included in the match day squad for the Premier League opener against Everton, which is no embarrassment when you check out the depth of the Blues bench for the 1-0 win.
However, Tuchel confirmed today that Mateo Kovacic will be unavailable to play against Tottenham this Sunday.
That opens up a space in the match day squad, so let’s see if Chelsea’s summer signing is anywhere near some action.
