Paul Merson claims Chelsea 22-year-old ‘looked dangerous’ in Leicester win

Paul Merson really liked what he saw from Chelsea attacker Mykhailo Mudryk in Saturday’s win against Leicester City.

Mudryk, who watched Chelsea’s two previous games from the bench, returned to the side today with a start away to Leicester.

It was another positive result for Graham Potter’s side, securing a 3-1 Premier League victory at the King Power Stadium.

The Blues flexed their attacking muscles for a change with goals from Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic.

It’s now three consecutive victories for Chelsea across all competitions, which has got to mark the best week in charge for Potter as head coach.

Next, Chelsea host Everton in a week’s time in their final match before the international break.

Sky Sports pundit Merson delivered his verdict on Mudryk’s individual performance at the weekend.

He thought the 22-year-old attacker was a threat throughout for the visitors.

The Ukraine international assisted Kovacic’s goal with a header. He had a goal himself ruled out for offside, too.

Speaking on Sky Sports (5:25pm, 11 March), Merson said: “I thought Mudryk did alright. He looked dangerous. He played through the middle for a lot of the game. Great movement. He scored, it was disallowed; he went too early and should have gone a little bit later with his pace.”

It will do Mudryk’s confidence the world of good to get a direct goal contribution today, albeit his wait for a first Chelsea goal goes on.

The speedster does look most comfortable when he’s operating from the left flank as a traditional winger, but he showed some decent moments in a more central position.

It was an opportunity against Leicester to impress with Raheem Sterling absent through injury. We certainly don’t think he did his own reputation any harm.
