Paul Merson thinks Joao Felix looked “unbelievable” during a Chelsea debut that ultimately ended in disappointment.

Chelsea’s home clash against Crystal Palace tomorrow in the Premier League has enormous pressure riding on it due to the club’s form, especially following a 2-1 away defeat to Fulham on Thursday night.

Graham Potter’s Blues side yet again misfired in a league match, losing to Fulham for the first time since 2006.

Felix, who made his Premier League and Chelsea debut, was at the centre of the storyline a couple of days ago.

The 23-year-old attacker added some fantastic creativity at the top end of the pitch for the Blues, including efforts at goal and great movement.

However, the Portuguese attacker saw his first game in English football end prematurely when he was shown a straight red card for a lunged challenge just before the hour mark.

Joao Felix debut

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson saw plenty from Felix’s Chelsea debut to rave about his individual quality.

He’s on loan at Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid until the end of the season, but he’ll miss the next three matches through suspension.

“Felix looked an unbelievable player [against Fulham]… Then he gets sent off, and rightly so. I don’t think he meant to do it. This kid was unbelievable. He would’ve scored a hatful the other night if Chelsea’s confidence was higher than it was,” Merson told Sky Sports.

Described as “exhilarating” by Ian Wright, Felix looks like he’ll bring a lot to the Chelsea line-up when he’s available to play.

This Blues XI needs a few sparks to bring it back to life, particularly at the top end of the pitch.

Chelsea fans will hope they get to see much more from Felix from now until the end of the season.
