'Stunning': Gary Lineker hails 22-year-old Chelsea player during win vs Newcastle
Gary Lineker was left blown away by Kai Havertz’s “stunning” match-winning goal this afternoon against Newcastle United.
For Chelsea, it was business as usual on the pitch with a Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge.
Blues manager Thomas Tuchel awaits to hear the news like the rest of us regarding a club takeover, but in the meantime is doing a great job keeping his players focused on the pitch.
They had to battle hard on Saturday to get three points against an in-form Newcastle side that were set up supremely well by opposition boss Eddie Howe.
Eventually, Havertz produced the magical moment with his 89th minute winning goal. The 22-year-old frontman delightfully controlled a Jorginho pass in the box before a quick finish from close range.
A 1-0 win on Sunday makes it five consecutive victories in the Premier League for Chelsea.
Lineker gave his reaction on Twitter to Havertz’s late winner.
Havertz now flying
Chelsea have a striker right now that’s playing with extreme confidence.
He’s now adding the goals to go along with his creativity and work rate in the top end of the pitch.
It’s now 11 goals across all competitions this season for the German, with four in his last three league matches.
Romelu Lukaku had to be content with another cameo off the bench against Newcastle, but perhaps he should get the chance to play more often in a front two alongside Havertz.
Havertz joined Chelsea in 2020 with the reputation as one of the world’s elite young players and it’s clear why people see so much potential in him.
