Dean Saunders has delivered a criticism of Chelsea’s Kai Havertz, whom he described as “a nearly player”.

Havertz, 23, is a part of a Blues attack that is hugely misfiring right now.

Graham Potter’s side have one of the least potent forward lines in the country right now, which is simply not acceptable given the calibre of players in the dressing room at Stamford Bridge.

TalkSPORT pundit Saunders has given his verdict on Chelsea’s forward.

He’s convinced that the Germany international is an out-and-out striker, but it’s a position that Potter has been playing him in for the last few months.

Meanwhile, centre-forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to struggle for minutes.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Saunders said: “Havertz is a nearly player. He’s not a centre-forward. He’s not going to be on the end of the good moves in the six-yard box. He’s talented. He’s a good attacking midfield player.”

Chelsea fans will definitely be able to relate to the frustration over Havertz.

There’s not many people who doubt his individual talent, but the lack of end product in the final third just isn’t good enough.

We’ve got to agree with Saunders that the left-footer is not a frontman to lead the line.

He’s much more effective dropping into pockets of space in the No.10 position, but you’d have to put him behind Joao Felix in that race right now.

It’s time for Chelsea’s head coach to stop shoehorning Havertz into every XI.

Despite all that, we’re still predicting him to be in the starting line-up for today’s game against Leeds United.
