Jody Morris has claimed that Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has the capability to become even better.

Mendy, 29, has been a breath of fresh air since his transfer to Stamford Bridge.

The £22million goalkeeper signed from Rennes at the start of last season, winning the Champions League during his debut campaign.

He’s become the outstanding first-choice goalkeeper for Chelsea and has racked up a staggering 36 clean sheets in 61 appearances for the Blues.

Ex-Chelsea assistant Morris is convinced the Senegal international can kick on to even higher standards, though.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

“Mendy’s a top keeper. Every day there’s a smile on his face but he’s demanding, he’s a fantastic size, his hands are bigger than my head and he also wants to play, he doesn’t want to just launch it and I still think there’s room to improve as well. That’s scary,” Morris said.

“It has to be difficult for Kepa [Arrizabalaga] because of the level of performance of Mendy since he’s come in — for us and especially for Tuchel. He hasn’t been that busy but all of a sudden will go, bang, bang, and make a couple of outstanding saves. If there’s a better goalkeeper in Europe at the minute, I’m not sure.”

Chelsea trophy contenders with Mendy

For Chelsea, they are now in the hunt for silverware across the board, largely because of Mendy.

The Blues know from recent history that you usually rely on a top-class goalkeeper to get over the line for trophies.

Mendy is right now one of the world’s elite goalkeepers.

First of all, he’s a colossus presence that dominates his box when it comes to aerial crosses. In addition, he’s got the knack of coming up with stunning saves against the run of play when Chelsea are enjoying dominant spells.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek rightly raved about teammate Mendy earlier this month.

PL golden glove race

It’s interesting to see if Mendy can win the individual prize for the Premier League’s golden glove.

As it stands, Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Manchester City’s Ederson are both tied with Mendy on seven league clean sheets this season. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale (six) is just behind them.

Mendy should just about be considered the frontrunner when you factor in the stellar defence in front of him.
