Tony Cascarinio thinks Chelsea may want to offload Mason Mount to help balance the club’s books.

Mason Mount, 24, is a Blues star whose future is a hot topic for discussion right now.

According to the Daily Mail last week, Mount is receiving interest from Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester United. In addition, the England international has appointed a new agent, which is the clearest indication yet he could leave in the summer.

He will head into the final year of his contract this summer with no new deal sorted yet, which is why supporters are fearful his time at Stamford Bridge may be coming to an end.

Now, pundit Tony Cascarino has suggested Chelsea may want to sell Mount to help them financially.

“Mason Mount has been a very good player for a long time but finds himself out of the picture at Stamford Bridge,” Cascarino told The Times.

“Chelsea may want him off the wage bill as they try to balance the books, in which case a number of clubs would be interested, not least Newcastle and Liverpool. He is tenacious, has a great work rate and will score plenty of goals.”

There is an entire host of players in the Chelsea squad right now, so we expect there to be plenty of player sales at the end of the season.

Paul Merson thinks Chelsea are making a mistake if they let Mount go. Will he end up in the departure longue, though?

It would be silly to ignore just how vital Mount has been to this Chelsea squad in the past few years.

The attacking midfielder may be going through a dip in form this season, scoring three goals and making six assists in 32 games across all competitions.

However, he’s been the shining light in the Blues team so frequently during recent seasons.

If he does join a rival Premier League club, don’t be surprised to watch him do very well.
