Stan Collymore has suggested that Phil Foden should replace Mason Mount in the England starting line-up.

Chelsea star Mount, 23, was part of the England side that recorded an underwhelming goalless draw with the United States last night.

The Blues attacking midfielder has now started both games for the Three Lions at the beginning of their World Cup tournament, but there’s a clamour from many to try squeeze Manchester City’s Foden into the XI.

Foden should replace Mount

Stan Collymore has suggested that Mount should make way in the England side to make room for 22-year-old Foden.

“Foden arguably should be a starter so Mount under threat. Mount energy is infectious but we need magic alongside the artisan, and Foden brings that,” Collymore tweeted.

Chris Sutton feels like Mount was fairly anonymous during his 90 minute performance against the United States.

If you want to get Foden into the starting team, the best bet may be withdrawing Bukayo Saka or Raheem Sterling for the wide positions.

Manchester City’s playmaker is such a talented footballer, but the majority of his excellent form this year with his club has been from wide positions.

The scrutiny on England players is a pressure unlike most things in football, which is why they will have expected an overaction from supporters to last night’s draw with the United States.

It’s obvious they’ll have to play much better to go deep into the tournament, but everything is still in their hands going into the Wales clash.

For Mount, the most important thing is that it looks like Southgate trusts him.

He just needs to try ramp up his final pass as he tries to play himself back into form.
