Gary Lineker posted a six-word message on Twitter hailing Chelsea’s Thiago Silva after he won the Club World Cup on Saturday.

Aged 37, Silva won yet another piece of silverware during an illustrious career this evening. He played in a Blues side that beat Palmeiras 2-1 after extra-time in the Club World Cup final.

Silva did actually concede a penalty for a handball during the second half, which Raphael Veiga converted to cancel out Romelu Lukaku’s opener. However, Chelsea’s hero appeared when Kai Havertz stayed calm from the penalty spot to score a winner in the 117th minute.

It means that Thomas Tuchel’s fairytale time as Blues manager continues after a stunning opening year in charge.

Silva, who’s still an incredible athlete at his age, got through the entire 120 minutes with a strong performance.

The Brazilian centre-back only arrived at Stamford Bridge 18 months ago, but he’s become a cult hero within the fanbase that’s made a seismic impact on and off the pitch. Blues supporters would surely love a time machine to make him just a few years younger.

Lineker has uploaded a brief message on social media applauding the South American defender.

Chelsea have great momentum

Yes, some of the most recent performances from the Blues haven’t been the most scintillating. This is exactly the kind of result that can send confidence through the roof within the dressing room, though.

Tuchel’s squad are the first Chelsea side in history to win the Club World Cup prize, so they have every right to celebrate the achievement.

A Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at the end of February is just around the corner, and today was brilliant preparation for that domestic showdown.

It’s a winning machine right now around Stamford Bridge that keeps rolling on.
