Paul Merson has been left stunned after Mykhailo Mudryk scored a fantastic goal in Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Brighton in the Premier League Summer Series.
The Ukraine international combined superbly with Nicolas Jackson to rifle in Chelsea’s second goal against the Seagulls.
So, how did Paul Merson react after seeing Mykhailo Mudryk score for Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Ukraine international was heavily criticised following his £88.5m move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January.
Mudryk failed to score in 15 Premier League appearances in the 2022/23 campaign, with only two assists to show for his efforts.
Now – however – Merson has boldly claimed that the Chelsea No.15’s exquisite volley against Brighton could be the goal which kickstarts his career at Stamford Bridge.

The 55-year-old wrote on Twitter: “What a goal Mudryk could be the goal that kick starts his Chelsea career.”
It certainly could be.
You could see how much it meant to Mudryk as he jumped into the arms of Angelo Gabriel, before fist pumping the air in jubilation.
Chelsea could have a star of the 2023/24 campaign in Mudryk
In our view, Chelsea have a very rare talent on their hands in Mudryk, and if Mauricio Pochettino can continue to get moments like this out of him next season, he could become a huge player in the Premier League.
The £97,000-a-week forward is unbelievably fast, boasts excellent dribbling skills and is utterly direct, but just seemed to lack a bit of confidence last season.

That can be forgiven, as most Chelsea players struggled under a very chaotic structure, in which Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard all held the reins at different times.
Now, with a brilliant coach helping him in Pochettino, we see no reason why Mudryk cannot kick on and deliver for Chelsea.
