Mason Mount's brilliant PL record this season only matched by Mohamed Salah
Chelsea star Mason Mount scored and assisted in a single Premier League game for the fifth time this season at the weekend, which is a record that only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah can match.
Mount scored twice and assisted one during Chelsea’s 6-0 away win against Southampton on Saturday.
His opener was the standout moment from the 23-year-old in the game, powering in a low finish from outside the box into the bottom corner.
The other league games this campaign he’s both scored and assisted in are Norwich City (two), Watford and West Ham.
OptaJoe highlights the fact that Liverpool attacker and talisman Salah is the only other individual in the Premier League division to replicate the brilliant feat.
Mount’s quietly gone about his business at times this season to post some eye-catching numbers. The attacking midfielder’s league return is 10 goals and eight assists.
In comparison, Liverpool winger Salah is regarded as one of the world’s very best players. He’s got a staggering 20 goals and 10 assists so far in the league, which is before you add the eight Champions League goals to his name.
Real driving force
In fairness, Mount’s been one of the individuals driving Chelsea to what looks like a third-placed finish in the Premier League this season.
His numbers in the top division speak for themselves, albeit he may have hoped for more success in cup competitions.
Thomas Tuchel’s side aren’t going to catch the top two of Manchester City and Liverpool. Meanwhile, they should stay above the teams below if they remain professional and win a few of their remaining eight league games.
