Last season, Enzo Fernandez was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Offensively, Fernandez was superb. Whether the Argentine was arriving late in the box as a No.8 or already there as a No.10, he was able to score plenty of goals for Chelsea.

It is no wonder that Fernandez is now attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Real Madrid.

It has been claimed that Fernandez has already agreed personal terms with Real Madrid ahead of a potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Enzo Fernandez looked like a completely different player on his Chelsea debut

If Real Madrid scouts analysed one of Fernandez’s recent games and compared it to his debut for Chelsea, they would be left stunned. He is a completely different footballer compared to then.

Fernandez made his Chelsea debut in a 0-0 draw with Fulham at Stamford Bridge, putting in a very robust performance in midfield.

According to Sofascore, he made 12 defensive contributions that night, which was the most in the game.

In total, Fernandez won five out of six tackles, made two interceptions and cleared the ball three times. He also blocked one shot and won eight out of 12 ground duels.

When Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in a crazy end to deadline day in the 2023 January transfer window, the 25-year-old arrived with a reputation of being a very technical midfielder who was excellent in possession.

Chelsea fans often see that profile of midfielder in Fernandez now, but against Fulham, the Argentina international looked like a true defensive midfielder as he donned the No.5 shirt.

If Real Madrid do go on to sign Fernandez, they will not be getting that. The World Cup winner has not lost that South American aggressiveness and tenacity that drive him into making tackles, but it has become very apparent that his best role is as an attacking No.8 or No.10.

That is what he will play as at Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City. PSG and City are also interested in Fernandez, though it is still not guaranteed that the former Benfica man will leave Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window.
