After watching Michael Olise at this year’s World Cup, Chelsea supporters have absolutely lost it!
Before France’s elimination on Tuesday night, Olise was one of the tournament’s best players.
The Bayern Munich star was unable to score for Les Bleus, but he did manage to provide five assists. No player has managed to record more.
Chelsea wanted to sign Olise before his move from Crystal Palace to Bayern, and fans are still angry at the club for not getting a deal done.
That is understandable, and Olise is clearly one that got away. However, if supporters are going to criticise the board every time a player they failed to sign goes on to enjoy success, they also have to praise them for ending interest in footballers who go on to flop.
What does signing Jonathan Rowe and selling Alejandro Garnacho actually solve? 😵💫
The Chelsea Chronicle understands that Rowe is now a target for the Blues
For every Michael Olise, there’s a Jhon Duran
Jhon Duran is a fine example. Like Olise, Chelsea also wanted to bring Duran to Stamford Bridge at one point.
In the end, though, the striker left Aston Villa for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr in a £65m deal.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea had broadly agreed a £40m deal with Villa for Duran, so they almost got him for less than what Al-Nassr paid. But a transfer was not finalised, which now looks like a really good outcome for the Blues.

Simply put, Duran’s move to the Saudi Pro League has been a disaster. He has already left Al-Nassr twice since joining, spending last season out on loan at Fenerbahce and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
The Colombian was not a success at either club, though at 22 he still has plenty of time to turn his career around. But from a Chelsea perspective, it is a bullet dodged.
Jhon Duran’s record since leaving the Premier League
Duran’s record at Al-Nassr is pretty good. In 18 games, he has scored 12 goals. However, he failed to settle, hence loan moves to Fenerbahce and Zenit.
At the former, Duran scored just five goals in 21 outings. At the latter, he scored just twice across nine appearances.
For whatever reason, Duran has just not been able to kick on following his impact at Villa. Chelsea were right to end their pursuit of him.
