Andrey Santos will face one of his former clubs when Chelsea take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Monday.
Santos spent half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Forest before being recalled early and sent to Strasbourg by Chelsea.
The midfielder barely kicked a ball at the City Ground and was very honest about his time there.
Would you make any changes to our XI to face Forest?
Chelsea star Andrey Santos admitted Nottingham Forest spell was ‘difficult’
In total, Santos made just two appearances during his short time at Forest. Santos was completely overlooked, which was “difficult”, according to the player.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official club website back in December, Santos said: “I was six months at Forest and I didn’t play there. It was a difficult moment, but I still had a strong mindset and then I joined Strasbourg and did very well.”
Fortunately for him and Chelsea, that failed loan spell did not impact his development. After spending a year and a half at Strasbourg, Santos became a very capable midfielder who can do so many different things on the pitch.
Chelsea supporters have perhaps not seen every tool in his arsenal just yet, but he is now a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge and doing well there.
This term, Santos has made 40 appearances in all competitions. When the 22-year-old is in the side, he keeps things ticking by playing simple passes, while he is also good at winning the ball back.

Now that Liam Rosenior is no longer at Chelsea, it will be interesting to see what kind of role Santos has going forward.
It was the Englishman who developed him at Strasbourg before giving the Brazilian a real opportunity in west London. The Blues’ next manager may not be as fond of Santos as Rosenior was.
There are also reports that Chelsea could sell Santos in the summer transfer window, so what the club’s next boss says about him will be something to pay attention to.
For now, Santos’ focus will be on Forest and showing them that they were wrong not to give him a proper opportunity. After that, Santos and Chelsea have big games against Liverpool and Manchester City, playing the latter in the FA Cup final.
