Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been speaking about a potential January move amid interest from Chelsea.

Ivan Toney recently told former team-mate Pontus Jansson that he is staying at Brentford this month but has now said something quite different in an interview with Sky Sports.

Back in November, Sky Sports claimed that it would take a £100m offer to get the 27-year-old out of the Gtech Community Stadium, with both Chelsea and Arsenal interested.

Toney could make his first appearance of the season on Saturday when Brentford face Nottingham Forest.

The England international is available for selection again after his eight-month ban.

After stating that he would be remaining at Brentford in a video call with Jansson, Toney is now refusing to rule out joining a top club in this transfer window.

“You can never predict when is the right time to move elsewhere, but I think it’s obvious I want to play for a top club,” he said.

“Everybody wants to play for a top club, that is fighting for titles. Whether it’s this January that is the right time for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows?”

Chelsea should make move for Ivan Toney after U-turn

With Toney thinking about an exit, Chelsea should really consider going after the former Peterborough United man now.

He is someone who would come in and improve them up front immediately. His record of 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last term gives you confidence that he would.

You can certainly debate whether Toney is actually worth £100m and whether Chelsea should go out and spend that on someone turning 28 in March this year. However, they surely have to at least make an attempt to sign the Brentford star after his admission of wanting to play for a big club.
