Chelsea may have some persuading to do if they really want to bring Brentford striker Ivan Toney to Stamford Bridge in January.

The Blues are interested in Ivan Toney as they weigh up strengthening their frontline, but there could be a bit of a problem for them and other suitors.

That is what one report from The Sun suggests.

It claims that Toney is torn between remaining at the Gtech Community Stadium until the end of the season and joining a new club in January.

According to the newspaper, the 27-year-old feels indebted to Brentford and Thomas Frank and part of him wants to remain at the west London outfit and help them stay up in the Premier League.

Can Chelsea afford to wait around for Ivan Toney?

It depends. Nicolas Jackson has been really good lately, scoring four goals in Chelsea‘s last two games.

If the Senegal international can maintain that kind of goalscoring form, then the club may be able to wait until the summer, when they can then revaluate everything.

Their aim will be Champions League football this season, and it is not impossible that they get it without bringing in a new centre-forward.

Right now, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men are 10 points behind rivals Tottenham Hotspur. It is quite a big gap but still one that can be overcome.

Chelsea just need to continue picking up points, which they have done against the likes of Tottenham and City, and that is only going to happen if Jackson and the rest of the team’s attackers keep scoring.

If not, then at some point, you would expect a new No.9 like Toney to arrive. He is not going to come cheap, though, especially if a transfer happens in January.

According to Sky Sports, Brentford want £100m for the England international if they do decide to play ball in the upcoming window.
