Chelsea youngster Deivid Washington is expected to stay at the club beyond today’s deadline day.

That is according to transfer speculation this afternoon.

The Telegraph reports on its live transfer blog (12:54pm, 1 February) that Deivid Washington is ‘more likely’ to stay at Chelsea in this window.

It is explained that the 18-year-old looks set to remain at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Blues were open to the idea of letting the Brazilian youngster leave on loan for the second half of the season.

Washington, who’s just 18, has been a bit-part player in Chelsea’s first-team squad this season.

The young striker’s been a regular in the matchday squad’s, but he’s only made two senior appearances this campaign.

It must be great for the South American teenager working around first-team stars every day in training, but nothing can beat minutes in senior football.

GiveMeSport claimed in December that Washington is considered a future star at Chelsea.

We do feel like a loan move could have been great for his development in the second half of the season. Perhaps it’s something that can be explored next year…

We expect Chelsea’s bright prospect to spend the rest of the campaign watching from the stands, but he’s got to try impress Mauricio Pochettino on the training pitches at Cobham.

It wouldn’t be the worst idea for Washington to drop down into the Under-21s side more often to play regularly during the second half of the season. Let’s remember that he’s still only 18 years of age and new to this country since arriving last summer!
