Flamengo star Matheus Franca is prepared to join Crystal Palace this summer despite interest from Chelsea.
That is according to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano has explained on Twitter that Chelsea have spoken with Brazilian top-flight club Flamengo about Matheus Franca, but they’re yet to make an offer because of his €25million (£21million) price tag.
It is understood that London rivals Crystal Palace have now submitted a formal proposal for the 19-year-old playmaker, though.
Apparently, the teenage attacking midfielder would be open to making the switch to Selhurst Park.

It now sounds like Palace have a genuine change to sign a highly-rated Brazilian youngster this summer.
“Crystal Palace have submitted a formal proposal for Matheus Franca. Talks are ongoing for the Brazilian talent,” Romano said.
“Understand Franca’s open to the move despite interest from Chelsea — Chelsea spoke to Flamengo but no bid as €25m is still excessive.”

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this month that Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add Franca to his squad this summer.
It’s definitely important for the Blues recruitment chiefs to listen to the manager’s opinions when it comes to transfer targets, but we’re getting a little worried by the sheer focus on rising stars.
Of course, it’s fantastic adding all these future stars to the club’s books. But how many are genuine first-team contenders for the next 12-18 months?
Chelsea finished such a long way off the pace last year following a dismal 2022/23 campaign, so it feels crucial we do strengthen the senior squad with a few more experienced heads.
