Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, who was linked with a switch to Chelsea in the summer, is not pushing for a move right now.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

He recently wrote in his Substack column that Emile Smith Rowe is “not pushing” for a transfer despite his lack of game time this season.

The 23-year-old is yet to start a game in the Premier League for Arsenal in the current campaign. And last term, he also failed to win a place in Mikel Arteta’s first XI.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea tried to have a conversation about signing Smith Rowe in the last transfer window but did not get anywhere.

Emile Smith Rowe not pushing for a move

That may be the case for now, but that could easily change as the season goes on.

After missing so many games last term, partly because of injury, Smith Rowe is surely not going to accept losing out on minutes forever.

If the England international’s situation does not improve, it would be a surprise if he was at Arsenal beyond the January transfer window.

The above does not mean Chelsea will sign Smith Rowe, though. Arsenal loaning him out to a club who they do not consider to be their rivals seems the more likely outcome.

A lot can still happen before then, however. All it could take is one good performance from Smith Rowe for Arteta to give him a more prominent role in the team. It is certainly something to keep an eye on.
